CADMIUM PLATING
As one of the most corrosion
resistant coatings available, Metal Finishing Technologies,
Inc. provides cadmium plating for customers requiring
superior protection and a pliable finish. The
corrosion resistance of cadmium plating can be further
improved with the application of a clear, olive
drab or yellow conversion coating (chromate).
Concern over the effects
of cadmium usage and employee safety prompted some
manufacturers to change specifications from cadmium
plating. However, many standards including military
applications continue to require the use of cadmium
as the specified finish. In an effort to provide
this much needed finish to its customers while understanding
the safety concerns of its employees, MFT implemented
an extensive cadmium training program.
In the event that cadmium
finish is required, the customer may remain assured
MFT will
provide a quality finish which meets or exceeds customer
requirements as well as addressing the safety of its
employees.
Where a product's application
allows for variation from the use of cadmium, several
replacement products have been developed. Contact
MFT for additional information about their specialized,
cost effective process.
COPPER
PLATING
Copper plating is utilized
in a variety of processes as an under-layer, barrier
coat and is especially effective for electrolytic
nickel, electroless nickel, tin and zinc finishes. Many
customers utilize copper plate as a "stop
off" or maskant to protect the base material
from being affected by additional surface processing. By
its chemical configuration, copper promotes strong
adhesion between the base metal and subsequent
finishing requirements
TIN
PLATING
Tin plating is a solderable,
conductive finish offered by Metal Finishing Technologies,
Inc. which is provided in either bright or matte finishes
depending on product specifications. Tin plating
is an excellent option for products requiring corrosion
resistance and which are utilized in applications
where insertion force and contact resistance are functional
requirements. |
